About Me

I'm a happy wife and mom of three (and counting).  I started this blog to organize and share my thoughts on my main fascinations: parenting, homeschooling, living in an environmentally friendly way, and becoming more self-sufficient.

Parenting:  I take ideas from all over; I've read every book on parenting from my library and keep nuggets from each one.  For instance, I am neither an extreme attachment parent nor a scheduled separate parent; I wear my babies and practice elimination communication, but they sleep in their own room and I take steps to ensure that they sleep through the night.  Posts with this tag will share cool things I've learned, breakthroughs, and grumblings about raising kids.

Homeschooling:  I homeschool basically from birth and expect my kids to read and do math at a young age.  With the little ones it's all fun and games, but as they approach school age I draw from many different sources to define a good education.  I am probably most influenced by the classical model, with a lot of Charlotte Mason specifics, and the self-teaching Robinson Curriculum, but I believe a lot of unschooling arguments and want to give my kids lots of time for themselves.

Environmentally friendly:  I spend time, money, and energy trying to reduce my footprint on the earth.  Under this tag I'll share tips, tricks, insights, and resources I appreciate as I slowly green my family's lives.

Self-sufficiency:  I know that communities are essential and true self-sufficiency is impossible, but my husband and I are committed to working and learning to do what we can on our own.  At the moment we have goats and chickens and bees in our suburban backyard, and posts with this tag will be about them and our other attempts to take care of ourselves from the land.

So that's what you can expect to see on this blog.  Have fun learning with me!
